Residents in the Lucky Lake area can be assured holiday joy will be spread once again this year thanks in part to one individual and his "Christmas truck". David Jessiman, who resides in Lucky Lake has been driving around in his truck, equipped with lights and holiday tunes since 2009. Jessiman says the idea stemmed from farmers in Rockwood, Ontario who would decorate their tractors and farm equipment.

Over the years, there have been a total of 4 trucks used, but its the one Jessiman drives now, that holds a special place in his heart.

“The truck that I'm using I have had for the last six or seven years. This is the last half ton that my dad ever owned. I have kept it, and that's what I use it for, is for the Christmas truck. So it's kind of sentimental that way.”

The Christmas truck starts making its rounds around the 10th or 11th of December and runs all the way until Christmas Day. A big part of the preparation has relied on some local farmers and businesses over the years to house the truck while its being decorated, which takes an extensive amount of time.

“It takes between 45 and 50 hours to decorate it or to get it all decked out. I’ve had great support through the years from Phoenix Auto body down here as far as repairs to the truck and adding to it and support.”

Jessiman added he feels this is a special way he can express his gratitude to the residents and businesses in the area.

“I was in business for 30 years and Lucky Lake, Beechy, and Birsay really supported me when I was in business, and maybe this is just a little way that I can give back and get people in the Christmas mood.”

When asked if he will continue to drive during the holidays in the future, Jessiman stated he intends to.

“I just had another granddaughter born two months ago, so it looks like I’m probably going to be doing this for another eight years anyway.”

Jessiman also has a grandson who drives around with him and gets behind the steering wheel from time to time. Making this special holiday tradition a family affair.
